Welcome to Nigeria, where Liberty is Illegal

A guy I worked with, was studying in one of the Scandinavian countries, Sweden I think

We were having a conversation and he told me how he lost his wallet thrice, while in school

He got called by the police to come pick it up on all of those occasions,  contents fully intact

Not a cent missing

He was so shocked the first time it happened, so much so that even the police men were surprised at his surprise

His shock shocked them

To them, someone finding their lost wallet with credit card and ID Card,  passport etc, intact, was as normal as dialling 911 or whatever they call and the cops showing up to assist and provide security

The second time, he was amused

By the third time, he was used to the system, so he just walked in,  smiled and got his wallet without even bothering to check the insides... He knew it would be complete the same way you use the ATM without counting your money.

But in Nigeria,  a cab man calls you and returns your wallet or purse, the cab man is celebrated nationally.

Or someone finds a bag loaded with money and takes it to the police station, even the Newspapers will carry the news, while Nigerians will hurl insults at the good Samaritan for missing their blessings.

We are so used to corruption and dishonesty in Nigeria, when we see basic honesty we idolize it.

Like oppression and suffering has been so normalized, when we hear about people suffering, we liken it to our own level of suffering and commonize it.

Someone said they are owing LUTH doctors 6 months salary,  and another person said it's not new,  it's common practice to owe, narrating how he was owed for 5 months in a Govt Job and paid in full on the 6th month. So what's the big deal....

For reals???

How is this normal???

We are so used to oppression and tyranny in this country, liberty is illegal.

When we see and read about America's freedom and liberty, we are angry they can exercise so much freedom

How can they be so free...

When an employee sues the company for asking her to cut her hair and wins, or a man sues his boss for making him work an extra hour of shift without pay and he missed singing goodnight to his daughter... We rage

A boy says he wants to be a girl, or a man marries a man, or the people protest cutting down trees and eating meat....we seethe with anger

To us, oppression and corruption is the order of the day, any other life,  a simpler honest life must be spiritual.

Let's share the grace...

I am not afraid of the storm Facing it alone isn't something I would lose sleep over But I want to conquer with you Set anarchy to never after Bring liberty to forever more Alone we are survivors, caging the fiercest waves Swimming the deepest seas But, hand in hand we would drown the ocean You and I, we would drink the rivers dry And spit out islands Kingdavid Chinaeke Ofunne Authorpreneur

I hate my Job

Warning: Strong adult content 18+ I hate my job My boss, Miss Patricia, is a tyrant 40+, beautiful angelic face and even more perfect body, with a lovely smile, that she hardly uses, single mom of two beautiful teenage girls, whose pictures are hung everywhere in our offices. While her exterior is sweet and beautiful, her interior is dark and evil. Always barking orders at the rest of us, like children, her voice is so loud you wonder where she has the energy to scream in such a high note all the damn time She is so feared, her car horn is enough to immediately drown whatever noise or laughter is coming from the entire building The popular saying among us, her staff members, is that the fear of Patricia's horn is the beginning of wisdom I spent years searching for a job in the streets of Lagos, begging even, embarrassed by security men and spat at by lousy and saucy receptionists, to quit this one just like that. We die here! I was prepared to eat shit for as long as I could, so I ...

Riotous Love

I have always found Tony, my boyfriend, fascinating His write-ups and rants about bad governance and patriarchy got me wet and awestruck every single time I visited his timeline  Whenever he wrote a piece on Facebook and Twitter, he got thousands of likes and comments I always read every comment, especially from women who were mesmerized by his writing prowess I was once part of such women until I decided to shoot my shot, and, like cupid, I hit him straight in the heart A simple "Hello, I've read and enjoyed all your stories, maybe you could write ours someday, hope I'm not overreaching?" I had to drink almost a full bottle of bailey's to find courage for that stunt, and today, we are celebrating 8 months of the best love story ever. He was my Mr. Perfect, everything I could ever ask for and more It wasn't surprising when he asked me to join him and go for the peaceful protest here in Lagos, and like a love-struck puppy, quickly I jumped up and said yes That ...
