The higher you aspire, the fewer women who
inspires!

Thankfully the narrative has changed and the domestic corridors are now so narrow, women are finding it hard to walk through.

Because the more information and education the women acquires, the larger the number of men forced to retire from the cult of misogyny.

We are evolving so fast.

Yet our ideas of gender is still as old as slavery and racism.

We are still not yet fit and physical enough to bear the weight of gender expectations!

Most of our ideologies are products of a society that have brainwashed us.

We connect with a story that fits into certain expectations of what the society spits.

We know intellectually what is right

Yet Ignore emotionally

So we don't appear weak or different

Culture and tradition is so tailored to feed our bloated ego...

We rather take sides with the norm because it feels safe and comfortable

Than conform to the ideology that masculinity is broken and twisted.

An overrated baby constantly over fed

Wealth does not hang at the tip of the manhood

Yet women are programmed by default to aspire to marriage

Because manhood is supposedly a synonym for success and ambition.

And women, are the reward for success!

Such nonsense narrative must stop if we must have a progressive society

We do a great disservice to manhood itself

We stifle the humanity in manhood!

Our definition of masculinity is starved and cracked

We define men as inevitably hard

We teach boys that it's a taboo to fear

So they fear fear

Whereas nature teaches girls to endure fear till they can confront it.

Fear is good, it keeps you alert and sharp.

So manhood is taught to mask his true personality.

And because he is constantly on edge, he reacts more than he acts.

We create a more dangerous world with such forced responsibility!

It's time to unlearn so many things we were taught in school.

Like how the head prefect must be a boy and his assistant a girl.

The music teacher must be female.

The fitness/physical education teacher, must be a man even though he is fat, bald, old and out of shape.

Then the C.R.K teacher, must be female.

Last but not least, the home economics/food and nutrition teacher, must always be a woman.

Yet the best chefs in the world are men, to say the least.

In the words of Chimamanda Adiche, "cooking isn't installed in the vagina."

I say..."Let he who is hungry find the kitchen!"

At a very young age, I left Nigeria behind mentally and psychologically.

Asides corruption, ethnic differences and inferiority complex, I knew gender expectations was also a big cancer and a system of oppression.

For me, culture isn't about strangulation of a gender or tribe, but it is about preservation and continuity of a people, gender or race that is constantly evolving

Anything else, is a gross disservice and cancer.

And cancer must be killed.

Solomon's Lair!

Rated 18 Solomon's lair  I almost refused to go for the birthday party this year. Solomon always hosted a party every year, and as usual, I always gave the opening speech and acted as the MC too. I hated the drama and fake smiles all around. Each year, new faces present, old faces absent. New Friends present, Old friends lost, only me stagnant. I was always present as the best friend, the loyal soldier, meanwhile I was notoriously known for not celebrating my own birthday. It was so bad that most of my friends didn't even know my date of birth, just my age. Yes, it was that bad! It was an exhausting exercise for me. The cake and speeches, by God I hated the hypocrisy. So this year I swore to him by the old gods and new, that I wasn't gonna be in the spotlight of his special day. I just wanted to drink and chill quietly in solitude. Surprisingly, without any fuss, he obliged me. ''Obi is now a man o'' I smiled. ...

Riotous Love

I have always found Tony, my boyfriend, fascinating His write-ups and rants about bad governance and patriarchy got me wet and awestruck every single time I visited his timeline  Whenever he wrote a piece on Facebook and Twitter, he got thousands of likes and comments I always read every comment, especially from women who were mesmerized by his writing prowess I was once part of such women until I decided to shoot my shot, and, like cupid, I hit him straight in the heart A simple "Hello, I've read and enjoyed all your stories, maybe you could write ours someday, hope I'm not overreaching?" I had to drink almost a full bottle of bailey's to find courage for that stunt, and today, we are celebrating 8 months of the best love story ever. He was my Mr. Perfect, everything I could ever ask for and more It wasn't surprising when he asked me to join him and go for the peaceful protest here in Lagos, and like a love-struck puppy, quickly I jumped up and said yes That ...
