"Why me?" I asked her. "What's in it for you?"
This is Nigeria after all and nothing goes for nothing so I was skeptical at the display of good will and kindness, her genuineness to help scared me.
She smiled that soft smile that felt like milk and turned brown eyes, sheltered by long lashes that resembles fresh green grass watered by early morning rain and opened her mouth to speak, I was almost swallowed in awe at the skill involved in creating such marvelous design, her lips were not small but a little big and well shaped you wanted to bury your tongue inside and stay buried. You never wanted her to keep shut just so you could watch it move up and down like a child swinging on a hilltop and laughing wild, oblivious of danger and pain, just enjoying the moment.
"You are a star." she said. There was something about the way she said it that made me believe, at that moment if she had said I was a dog, I would have barked because I would have believed it.
She had the kind of voice that felt like cream, those scented lotion you apply on your body after being scorched by the angry sun during the dry season, the relief and pleasure you feel when the lotion touches your body after you have showered, that is what her voice did to me at that moment. It soothed my fears.
"You will shine nevertheless, whether I help you or not. So my dear you see, all you need is a sky and I wanna be the rocket that will launch you into the skies and be the star you were born to be."
Holding my hands and gazing into my teary eyes, she said.
I just wanna be your starmaker and not join others to be stargazers.
