The Nigeria I want to see

The Nigeria I want to  see

Nigeria, the passport to every man's dream
The mere sight of our men makes every woman cream
So I woke up this morning, took a sip of hot tea
Spilled a drop on my shirt, so I stripped revealing dark skin
A color I'm proud to call my own
Not to be sold out to some artificial whitening lotion
My idea of beauty indeed isn't manufactured
It's original and pure like our tradition and culture
After changing my attire, I adorned myself, not with gold or silver
But my native cap and traditional regalia
Stepped outside to the street, called out to the neighbor
With a strong Nigerian accent, not a forced accent I speak in labor
I am Nigerian, I am proud to look and sound like one
58 years ago and beyond, it was a battle our fathers and forefathers fought and won
Not so we could look and speak like the imperialists
The same slave traders that shackled and chained our wrists
How sad it is, that the evil we fought so hard to eradicate
Is what we clamor so hard to imitate
I remember when all around me, I heard white but saw black
Different shades of black and brown, a color hack
Now its pure brown sugar and black chocolate
Speaking in one language, preaching love and zero hate
Electricity regular like a monthly period
Employment building like studs on steroids
Plane tickets, as easy as getting a cigarette
Politicians queuing for a plate of service, equal rates
Hourglass running at an average tempo
Faith isn't caged and locked in a temporary temple
Education and technology, like amala and ewedu
At 58 our sovereignty isn't as foggy as a mountain dew
Ethnic chauvinism and conspiracy, fragments of history
Our economy is a woman, she is full of pleasant mystery
And so every day I go out dressed in pride and confidence
Like a man whose lady is the cynosure of all eyes
And so at night, I return with my head held high
The center of attraction of all nations, even the universe can testify
I walk, talk, and act Nigerian
Because no matter how white I look, sound or feel, they will never take me as one
No matter how long we act as political actors
In the end, we will rise to greener pastures
This is Nigeria, green and white is the color of our wonderland
Proudly Nigerian till the end of time, one nation, one people united in diversity, this is our brand!

I am not afraid of the storm Facing it alone isn't something I would lose sleep over But I want to conquer with you Set anarchy to never after Bring liberty to forever more Alone we are survivors, caging the fiercest waves Swimming the deepest seas But, hand in hand we would drown the ocean You and I, we would drink the rivers dry And spit out islands Kingdavid Chinaeke Ofunne Authorpreneur

Solomon's Lair!

Rated 18 Solomon's lair  I almost refused to go for the birthday party this year. Solomon always hosted a party every year, and as usual, I always gave the opening speech and acted as the MC too. I hated the drama and fake smiles all around. Each year, new faces present, old faces absent. New Friends present, Old friends lost, only me stagnant. I was always present as the best friend, the loyal soldier, meanwhile I was notoriously known for not celebrating my own birthday. It was so bad that most of my friends didn't even know my date of birth, just my age. Yes, it was that bad! It was an exhausting exercise for me. The cake and speeches, by God I hated the hypocrisy. So this year I swore to him by the old gods and new, that I wasn't gonna be in the spotlight of his special day. I just wanted to drink and chill quietly in solitude. Surprisingly, without any fuss, he obliged me. ''Obi is now a man o'' I smiled. ...

I hate my Job

Warning: Strong adult content 18+ I hate my job My boss, Miss Patricia, is a tyrant 40+, beautiful angelic face and even more perfect body, with a lovely smile, that she hardly uses, single mom of two beautiful teenage girls, whose pictures are hung everywhere in our offices. While her exterior is sweet and beautiful, her interior is dark and evil. Always barking orders at the rest of us, like children, her voice is so loud you wonder where she has the energy to scream in such a high note all the damn time She is so feared, her car horn is enough to immediately drown whatever noise or laughter is coming from the entire building The popular saying among us, her staff members, is that the fear of Patricia's horn is the beginning of wisdom I spent years searching for a job in the streets of Lagos, begging even, embarrassed by security men and spat at by lousy and saucy receptionists, to quit this one just like that. We die here! I was prepared to eat shit for as long as I could, so I ...
