Classroom Education Is A Prison Sentence

Some months ago, I wrote an article about the kind of education that will work, using Finland as a case study.

I got some backlash, but I’m happy some parents and teachers reached out and are now working towards changing the defunct status quo.

Adults have the advantage of understanding and expressing better how they take in new information, but children don’t have this luxury.

We put children in a room filled with paintings, toys, colors and other kids, locking them up with a view full of visual stimuli, and instruct them to be quiet, pay attention, sleep, stop moving, and study.

HOW???

Children require movement and hands-on learning technique or approach, and the traditional classroom environment is the biggest obstacle to learning.

Pathetically, children who don’t do well in this space are considered dumb and dummies… Failure…

Meanwhile, the real failure here are the parents and teachers who have failed to realize their children’s learning strength.

Children wander, ponder, jump, run, slide and glide through the day and can’t seem to sit still or hold still for long.

This is how they learn.

Body movement and an active imagination.

This is why the play strategy is the only move you got.

Play is as important, or even more important than studying, for children.

Play is a kind of studying, but yeah just like excess studying damages, excess play spoils too. Granted.

Learn to balance it and keep it in moderation.

I find parents who forbid their kids from playing as not only barbaric but outright evil.

Children learn better when they are able to run, swim, dance, and be involved in other sports.

They learn faster surrounded by art, games, building blocks, and math’s games.

So long as the child is not disrupting other pupils, let them move and play, you will see improvement in their performance.

Don’t beat your child at home because he/she can’t seem to concentrate and keep still during studying.

Divide homework time into breaks and then maybe do a physical activity of the child's choosing and come back maybe an hour later.

Nigerian parents will find this hard and difficult, because you are lazy and intolerant, you can't just give your children the healthy dose of time they require. You always claim to be too busy even for them and then blame them when they grow up like orphans with no proper upbringing.

It’s appalling to find parents and teachers beating their kids and warning them to sit still and learn, and then beating the child for not grasping…

My God even the bible said “My people suffer for lack of knowledge” Ignorance is sometimes worse than cancer.

No wonder these young generations are violent, aggressive and hostile to authority and disrespectful to their elders.

They are products of a dysfunctional upbringing.

Kids tend to lose interest quickly, yet you want them to sit from morning till afternoon studying, always keep intensive teaching moments short.
It’s torturous to young minds and it doesn’t work.

No be who enter school first go finish best!

Children’s attention will always wander, explore these playful and adventurous side, they might be writers, artists or painters.

It is not witchcraft or stubbornness; it is who they are Goddammit.

You simpletons, don’t raise geniuses as simpletons because your simple brain can’t comprehend their complex life.

I hate my Job

Warning: Strong adult content 18+ I hate my job My boss, Miss Patricia, is a tyrant 40+, beautiful angelic face and even more perfect body, with a lovely smile, that she hardly uses, single mom of two beautiful teenage girls, whose pictures are hung everywhere in our offices. While her exterior is sweet and beautiful, her interior is dark and evil. Always barking orders at the rest of us, like children, her voice is so loud you wonder where she has the energy to scream in such a high note all the damn time She is so feared, her car horn is enough to immediately drown whatever noise or laughter is coming from the entire building The popular saying among us, her staff members, is that the fear of Patricia's horn is the beginning of wisdom I spent years searching for a job in the streets of Lagos, begging even, embarrassed by security men and spat at by lousy and saucy receptionists, to quit this one just like that. We die here! I was prepared to eat shit for as long as I could, so I ...

Riotous Love

I have always found Tony, my boyfriend, fascinating His write-ups and rants about bad governance and patriarchy got me wet and awestruck every single time I visited his timeline  Whenever he wrote a piece on Facebook and Twitter, he got thousands of likes and comments I always read every comment, especially from women who were mesmerized by his writing prowess I was once part of such women until I decided to shoot my shot, and, like cupid, I hit him straight in the heart A simple "Hello, I've read and enjoyed all your stories, maybe you could write ours someday, hope I'm not overreaching?" I had to drink almost a full bottle of bailey's to find courage for that stunt, and today, we are celebrating 8 months of the best love story ever. He was my Mr. Perfect, everything I could ever ask for and more It wasn't surprising when he asked me to join him and go for the peaceful protest here in Lagos, and like a love-struck puppy, quickly I jumped up and said yes That ...
