Free The Nigerian Child...You Evil Parent

I was chatting with a friend.

She's a student in one of the higher institutions in Nigeria.

And a damn good writer.

She had a lot to say regarding her classroom schedule and timetable.

I almost wept by the time she was through.

I remembered how I suffered too!

Education in Nigeria is a scam.

It is finished...

We are so invested in the number of hours the kids should spend inside the classroom.

Forgetting that real education isn't about how many hours the child spends in the classroom but outside.

The classroom is so chaotic and stressful for the child, its almost like the 9 to 5 job of the average Nigerian employee.

Who works all his life and never gets rich on 9 to 5.

That's how the classroom is!

8 to 4

You can never get smart on 8 to 4, except you were born smart!

It's in your gene

Them no dey learn am

You only hone and craft it!

When I was in school, I went to school by 7 and came back past 5 cos we had compulsory lesson till,4:30pm.

Imagine a child, suffering for hours just to learn how to read and write!

Torture!!!

The classroom lacks imagination, it's a prison!

It conditions the mind and limits it to the four walls of nothing!

Even your teachers are underpaid and under motivated!

They are tired and hungry.

And you expect them to teach you how to fly.

When they are underpaid and too weak to even run.

The western world gets this!

Finland gets this.

Oh..how I envy the Finnish.

We, we are finished!

I read a research on education in Finland recently.

Schools in Finland only allow children to start school when they are 7 years old.

And they are ranked number one in the world!!!!

Finland's education system beats America and England!

What are they doing?

I have mentioned the first, they start school when they are 7 years old

Not torn from their parents and locked in an institution called education when they 1or 2 years old.

From 7 to 10 years, they spend 50% of their time in school and the remaining 50% holidaying and flexing...yes vacationing!

But in my country, a 1 year old baby is already enrolled in class!

Get this...so the parents can have peace and be free to born more pikins.

And also just to ensure the child finishes early and enter university while still a teenager.

In Finland, science is equal to Arts

Every choice and discipline the child chooses is equal.

Science students are not considered superior, and arts inferior.

In my days, science students were in A and B, while arts where in C and D!!!

Imagine the psychological effect that has on a child.

From my secondary school days, I was already feeling like a third class student in "C and D" because one ignoramus felt it should be this way!

Bad programming and conditioning!!!

In Finland, students can rest when they are tired, break time isn't once...they have a resting room, and get this, until they clock 13, there is no grading, no first, second or last position... No report cards!

No room for students to compete because education is not competition...it is not a war!

The ideology that kids need to compete to bring out the best in them, has done more harm than good.

I made enemies more because I saw them as a competition, someone I need to beat so I won't get beaten..instead of a classmate, I saw a soldier!

They are not given home work, the child picks a topic from any subject of their choice and study!

You are shouting impossible.. My children will abuse that right and play...did you try them?

This is a proven statistics, Finland is The best now in the world!

The happiest children in the world are in Finland.

Not because they are the smartest

But because they are taught right!

Do you know that there is something called education tourism?

Lol

I'm sure you didn't.. I didn't too until I read about Finland while I was working on courses to go into  and best counties where education is valued!

The bulk of their foreign exchange comes from Education!

Teachers in Finland are as important as celebrities.

Infact more than 50% of children wants to be teachers... And get this... They can't!!!

They really can't!!!!!! Lol..Nigeria, only the worse of the worst, which is actually everybody...

In Finland, only those who are excelling are considered...

Being a teacher in Finland is like being a doctor in  Nigeria.

And they have special training and military training too,

Oh yes!!

They are specially trained in the politics of the country, fire service, even martial arts and first aid!

Goddammit!!!!

They have doctors in the school just for the kids

Not the useless medical centers handled by an SSCE holder, that has led to the deaths of more students than HIV and Lassa fever combined.

How can you be mediocre!!!!

Little wonder Finland holds the record of having the lowest crime rates in the world!

The Country is crime free!

Because they raise responsible students without forcing them to fast, pray and die in chapel.

Or taking them by their neck to  church to speak in tongues and manifest.

While their mates are building robots, the average Nigerian child is building faith.

Meanwhile faith without works is dead

But work without faith, you are still working!

Finland has no exam's in their schools, yet they beat and excel in competitive exams everywhere else!!!

In my country, if the teacher doesn't give the child homework, it is the mother that will march with wrapper and blouse to the school to kill something!

Once you finish secondary school...JAMB!!!!

Whether that child is mentally or psychological ready or not.

The Nigerian parents don't care.

You must be ready in Jesus name.

You are strong in Jesus name.

Jesus is your father so you must be ready to go to school and succeed in life.

Your finishing secondary school at the age of 14 is a miracle not a push.

So it is God at work..you must study that medicine or die trying.

Even though you prefer drawing cartoons.

You must be an engineer.

Even though you love singing.

You must be a banker or a lawyer.

Even though, you love writing and poetry.

So the child is drilled and  forced all of their young life.

To be who he hates!

And study something he isn't fit for!

Then he grows up and becomes a clueless, magic-less, art-less president!

Governor.

Senator.

Police commissioner.

Commissioner of sports.

Ritualist

Armed robber

Kidnapper

Or a Suicide victim!

You hear people saying..ahh..that handsome rich successful doctor killed himself..chai..village people ooo..them don remote am.

The remote is the mother and father!

That beautiful banker, with her own car and beautiful children, jumped from the bridge? It is not ordinary.. It is juju..

The juju is a failed education institution, a dysfunctional society and an outdated family unit.

Allow the child to breathe.

The best kind of education is done outside the classroom not inside...

Classroom is a prison.

Free the Nigerian child you evil parent!

Solomon's Lair!

Rated 18 Solomon's lair  I almost refused to go for the birthday party this year. Solomon always hosted a party every year, and as usual, I always gave the opening speech and acted as the MC too. I hated the drama and fake smiles all around. Each year, new faces present, old faces absent. New Friends present, Old friends lost, only me stagnant. I was always present as the best friend, the loyal soldier, meanwhile I was notoriously known for not celebrating my own birthday. It was so bad that most of my friends didn't even know my date of birth, just my age. Yes, it was that bad! It was an exhausting exercise for me. The cake and speeches, by God I hated the hypocrisy. So this year I swore to him by the old gods and new, that I wasn't gonna be in the spotlight of his special day. I just wanted to drink and chill quietly in solitude. Surprisingly, without any fuss, he obliged me. ''Obi is now a man o'' I smiled. ...

I hate my Job

Warning: Strong adult content 18+ I hate my job My boss, Miss Patricia, is a tyrant 40+, beautiful angelic face and even more perfect body, with a lovely smile, that she hardly uses, single mom of two beautiful teenage girls, whose pictures are hung everywhere in our offices. While her exterior is sweet and beautiful, her interior is dark and evil. Always barking orders at the rest of us, like children, her voice is so loud you wonder where she has the energy to scream in such a high note all the damn time She is so feared, her car horn is enough to immediately drown whatever noise or laughter is coming from the entire building The popular saying among us, her staff members, is that the fear of Patricia's horn is the beginning of wisdom I spent years searching for a job in the streets of Lagos, begging even, embarrassed by security men and spat at by lousy and saucy receptionists, to quit this one just like that. We die here! I was prepared to eat shit for as long as I could, so I ...
